Limitations of manual powder removal
After the printing process, 3D printed metal parts are full of fine powder. However, this powder has to be removed for downstream postprocessing. Especially with components that have complex intricate channels manual depowdering reaches its limits. This is the case, for example, with heat exchangers. However, Solukon’s automatic depowdering technology, Smart Powder Recuperation SPR®, removes all powder residues even with complex metal parts.
Automated rotation and targeted vibration with SPR®
SPR® enables fully automated cleaning of 3D printed metal parts in a protected atmosphere. Using adjustable vibration and automated two-axis part rotation, the powder becomes “flowable”. This means the powder flows out of even the smallest cavities and intricate channels. Depending on the machine model the movement sequence of the sviveling arms can be programmed conventionally or by using an intelligent software. The S-version of some Solukon systems has two endless rotating axes with two programmable servo-drives and can move the part along any imaginable path. To clean in series, you can save the moving pattern as well as the vibration in a program.
